A Step Forward for School Safety

Creating safe and accessible learning environments is essential to ensuring that students can focus on what truly matters: education. Guided by this commitment, MLhuillier, in partnership with OPEC La Lagoon, successfully implemented the community project “A Higher Path, A Safer Path.”
The project was formally completed and turned over on March 23, 2026, at Maytalang Elementary School in Lumban, Laguna. It involved the construction of an elevated pathway aimed at providing students, teachers, and school personnel with a safer and more reliable passage within the school grounds. This improvement is especially significant during the rainy season, when flooding has long posed challenges and safety concerns for the school community.
Before the project’s completion, navigating the area during periods of heavy rain was difficult. The newly built elevated pathway now ensures uninterrupted access to classrooms and school facilities, helping reduce risks of slips, delays, and absences caused by flooding. More importantly, it offers peace of mind to parents and educators, knowing that students can move safely within the campus regardless of weather conditions.
The turnover ceremony was attended by officers of OPEC La Lagoon, the school principal, faculty members, PTA representatives, and students. During the event, the school community expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the project, highlighting how the pathway will make a lasting difference in their daily routines and overall school experience.
“A Higher Path, A Safer Path” reflects MLhuillier’s continued dedication to meaningful corporate social responsibility initiatives that address real community needs. By collaborating with local organizations such as OPEC La Lagoon, the company reinforces its mission to uplift communities, promote safety, and support education at the grassroots level.
Through this initiative, MLhuillier and OPEC La Lagoon demonstrate that small yet thoughtful infrastructure projects can create a big impact, empowering schools, protecting students, and paving the way for a safer journey toward learning and growth.
