Our sense of sight is one of the most important tools we have, with 80% of what we perceive coming through our eyes. Understanding the critical role of eye health, M Lhuillier, through its OPEC Batangan team, partnered with Dr. Romeo Briones Bayer, a renowned ophthalmologist, to host a symposium, free eye checkups, and examinations. As part of this initiative, the OPEC Batangan team also generously sponsored 50 pairs of eyeglasses, offering a much-needed Gift of Appreciation to the grandparents of Barangay Sampaguita in Lipa City, Batangas. 

In today’s world, many people suffer from poor vision, yet eye care often remains a low priority in public health initiatives. This project by M Lhuillier emphasizes the importance of eye health, aiming to reduce the odds of vision loss and blindness while identifying early signs of eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma. By providing access to proper eye care, M Lhuillier is helping prevent these conditions from worsening and improving the overall quality of life for the senior citizens of the community. 

In celebration of Grandparents Day 2024, the primary goal of this project was to educate and raise awareness within the community about the importance of maintaining good vision. By providing free eye care services, M Lhuillier aimed to share vital information on how to properly care for one’s eyes, particularly for the elderly, who are more vulnerable to age-related vision problems. This initiative not only provided practical solutions but also reinforced the company’s commitment to community welfare and public health. 

The free eye checkups and examinations were conducted on October 12, 2024, followed by a symposium and the dispensing and proper fitting of eyeglasses on October 19, 2024. During this special event, 50 elderly participants from Barangay Sampaguita received custom-fitted eyeglasses, significantly improving their vision and overall well-being. In addition to the eyeglasses, M Lhuillier giveaways such as towels and tote bags were distributed, further brightening the day for the participants.

By providing free eye care to the elderly, the company is helping these community members regain their independence, improve their quality of life, and stay connected with their loved ones.
