Raising Awareness on Mangrove Conservation Through Planting
April 6, 2026
In line with its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development, M Lhuillier, through OPEC Ilocandia, successfully conducted a mangrove planting activity at Barangay Davila. The activity resulted in the planting of a total of 550 mangrove propagules along the coastal area, contributing to shoreline protection, coastal erosion prevention, and the preservation of marine biodiversity.
The initiative was made possible through a strong partnership with Davila Mangrove Planters & Developers Association Inc., the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and MENRO Bangui. These organizations continue to work hand in hand to promote environmental conservation and community-based sustainability efforts across the region.
During the program, Mr. Carlos Garasi, a representative from DENR, delivered an informative discussion on the importance of mangroves to coastal ecosystems. He emphasized how mangroves serve as natural barriers against strong waves and storms, help reduce the impact of coastal erosion, and provide vital breeding grounds for fish and other marine life. The discussion also highlighted the role of mangroves in maintaining ecological balance and supporting local livelihoods.
Participants from M Lhuillier, together with members of the Davila Mangrove Planters & Developers Association Inc. and representatives from partner agencies, actively took part in planting the propagules. Their collective effort demonstrated a shared commitment to environmental protection, sustainability, and community involvement. More than just a planting activity, the event also served as an avenue to raise awareness about the critical role mangroves play in preserving coastal ecosystems.
This mangrove planting initiative, participated in by RM, AMS, and OPEC officers and noted by RM Jelord Elemancil, reflects M Lhuillier’s continued dedication to caring for the environment. Through initiatives like this, the company reinforces its belief in shared responsibility, working with communities and partners to nurture nature and help build a greener, more resilient future for the next generations.
