Shade the Future, Connect with Nature - Year 2

Planting a tree may seem like a simple gesture — but when done with shared intent, it becomes a symbol of hope and collective responsibility. For the second year in a row, M Lhuillier, through its OPEC Sugar Islands initiative, brought this vision to life with the environmental campaign: “Shade the Future, Connect with Nature – Year 2.”
In celebration of Philippine Bamboo Month, the team partnered with CENRO Capas for a purposeful tree-planting program held in Barangay Bueno, Capas, Tarlac, echoing this year’s national theme:
“Kawayan: Kalikasan, Kabuhayan, Kaunlaran sa Kinabukasan Para sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
Team members gathered at the ML Tarlac 3 Branch, ready to trade their usual routines for boots and gloves — stepping into nature with energy and enthusiasm. Before any planting began, CENRO staff led a short but essential briefing on proper bamboo propagation techniques, ensuring that each plant would thrive in its new home.
Shoulder to shoulder, volunteers planted not only bamboo but a vision for what a sustainable future could look like. A total of 408 bamboo propagules were rooted into nearly two hectares of land — each one a living testament to resilience, regeneration, and the belief that small, consistent actions can lead to long-term transformation.
The initiative was led by Tarpan Regional Manager Ernesto Mohillo Jr., OPEC President Kryz Gelin Fagaragan, and Area Manager Jessie Caliboso, alongside the passionate OPEC team and Area A staff. Their direct involvement underscored a core value: true leadership means getting your hands dirty for the causes that matter.
But this event was about more than just planting. It was a day of learning, collaboration, and reinforcing values — from environmental stewardship to the importance of teamwork and sustainable impact. It was a reminder that caring for the Earth isn’t a one-time task — it’s a continuous journey.
For M Lhuillier OPEC Sugar Islands, this is more than an annual initiative. It’s an evolving commitment to environmental sustainability, climate action, and green livelihood development. Each bamboo shoot planted today is an investment in a cleaner, stronger, and greener tomorrow.
As the bamboo stretches toward the sky in the years to come, so too will M Lhuillier’s dedication to being a force for positive change.
This forest is only beginning to grow.
