September 27, 2024

On August 24, 2024, M Lhuillier’s OPEC Negros South Alliance (ONSA) conducted a successful tree planting event at Hermit Mountain. Despite facing challenges from persistent rain showers and muddy soil conditions, the community-driven initiative resulted in the successful planting of over 500 native tree seedlings across the mountainous terrain. The event underscored the power of collaborative efforts in environmental conservation and sustainable development.

"This tree planting activity is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our community to safeguarding the natural resources that sustain us," said Barangay Captain Junefel Aguillon. "By working together, we are not only beautifying our surroundings but also ensuring a greener, more resilient future for the next generation."

The tree seedlings for the activity were provided by the Municipality of Binalbagan, under the leadership of Mayor Alejandro Y. Mirasol, who has championed several environmental initiatives in the region. This collaborative effort between M Lhuillier and the local government, and community stakeholders showcases the vital role of public-private partnerships in addressing pressing environmental challenges.

"We are grateful for the support and participation of our partners in this meaningful endeavor," expressed ONSA President, Maria Theresa Gonzales. "Through events like this, we aim to inspire a sense of environmental stewardship and empower our communities to be active custodians of the land we call home."

The tree planting event in Hermit Mountain is part of M Lhuillier's broader initiatives to promote sustainable development and ecological preservation across the Negros South region. By mobilizing community resources and fostering collaborative networks, the organization continues to make strides in its mission to create a greener, more resilient future for all.
