A Better School For A Better Future

Improving the quality of school facilities and the environment indeed has a great impact on the behavior, learning, engagement, and growth of students. School grounds should not only be fun but also safe and healthy with accessible equipment for teachers and children.

M Lhuillier, seeing the need of different institutions for assistance in obtaining an effective learning environment, conducted different programs and extended donations to multiple schools through its diligent OPEC teams.

Starting with OPEC Panay Lontian Gems, the group successfully turned over the newly constructed school study shed to Badio Elementary School.  They also gave a computer set with a printer, which the school really needed since they are still in the modular learning method. The team of OPEC Kalilintad Agus has launched another program where they were able to successfully turn over the computer laboratory room to Minaulon Elementary School, which is a very integral part of the pupils’ future computer learning.

OPEC Panay Hugyaw, in cooperation with the people of Brgy. Pajo, Lambunao, Iloilo, has creatively conducted a mobile school learning program for thirty (30) children aged 4–12 years old. Classes involved reading flash cards and stories, and allowing students to practice writing by drafting a thank you letter to M Lhuillier. The goal is not only to teach them basic reading and writing skills, but also to show them that they deserve a better education. A feeding program has been established for children to provide them with nutritional snacks to keep their stomachs full after class.

The OPEC clusters, including OPEC Negros Jewellers, OPEC Centrum Cebu, OPEC Zambasulta Vinta, and OPEC Last Frontier, improve school hygiene through renovating and turning over hand-washing facilities and comfort rooms to the beneficiaries in different regions of the country. The teams also educate the children about good practices to keep their bodies clean, along with giving hygiene kits and school supplies to learners and the faculty.

Finally, the OPEC Batangan team, with its Sustansya Eskwela program, which aims to strengthen the integration of environmental education in the school curriculum, organized the "Gulayan sa Paaralan-Greenhouse Project" at Don Julio Leviste Memorial National High School at BLISS, San Andres, Malvar, Batangas, which will also serve as a haven for plants, a garden for all seasons where students can benefit from crops and gain an appreciation for the environment as well as understand food production and food security. The project focuses on how to abundantly grow vegetables, and eventually these will be used as a supplement to the food being provided in the school feeding program. This also sustains environmental consciousness and action among learners while instilling the values of unity, teamwork, volunteerism, nationalism, and community service for environmental protection and conservation.

M Lhuillier supports the vision of the schools and institutions to uphold a quality education for the growth and success of the students. With the guidance of dedicated teachers, a school is not just a learning area but a home built for children’s better future.
