Relief Operation

Mayamot and Valeriana are barangays in the municipality of Zaragoza, in the province of Nueva Ecija. The said barangays are both rural communities which live off on farming.

Back in July 2018, a typhoon called “Inday” hit our country and both Barangay Mayamot and Barangay Valeriana was badly affected. Being located in an area where everything isn’t available, it was difficult for them that even the basic needs were lacking. 

Barangay Mayamot got affected worse, though. Houses in the barangay located near the river got their houses almost flashed from the flood when the river overflowed. The locals said they are used to it but it still don’t get easy every time it happens. Families who have second storey houses refuse to leave their homes. The water from the flood almost reached their home’s roofs but they insisted on staying, despite the discomfort and despite the fact that they weren’t safe there. Most of them were elderly people, too. 

M Lhuillier, which isn’t just a financial institution but also a company that reaches out to people in need, tried to help by providing goods to the families affected. The OPEC Committee together with the Area Managers and Regional Manager took their time to visit the location and witness the effect of the calamity in the village. We had to ride a small boat to deliver the goods to those families who refuse to leave their homes. Despite the lack on safety which added to our uneasiness as we were trudging the flooded area, with a deep breath, we put in mind our main goal and mission, which was to give help in behalf of the company. 

Barangay Valeriana, at first, seemed like an abandoned village but once they heard there were relief operators, the families started gathering around for the grocery goods. 

Being part of a company that has a heart for people in need brought us all a sense of gratefulness. To be used as an instrument to get those help from a big company to people who are less fortunate, is truly a blessing. 

And once again, the smiles and ‘thank you’s of all those families proves that M Lhuillier is a company that holds a vision and a mission close to heart.
