THE SPIRIT OF BAYANIHAN SHINES THROUGH MLHUILLIER'S COMMUNITY PANTRIES

April - June 2021 mlcares-admin

The CoVid-19 saw many countries imposing lockdowns and community quarantines, the Philippines being one of them. While benefiting the health and safety of our communities, these lockdowns have affected millions of people who have become unemployed leaving them with little to no food on the table.

Inspired by the philanthropic movement in an effort to feed the poor and hungry as CoVid-19 cases continue to rise, M Lhuillier responded to the call to take action in alleviating hunger amid the surging unemployment rate.

On April 28, M Lhuillier through OPEC Gold put up community pantries in Sitio Upper San Isidro located in Barangay Nuevo, Davao de Oro. Despite the long journey and the blistering heat of the sun, the team was all smiles as they delivered and shared their donations in the form of fresh produce, packs of rice, canned goods, noodles, and M Lhuillier merchandise.

On April 30, the nationwide movement also ignited M Lhuillier through OPEC Dagyang of Panay South Region to put up a community pantry in Barangay Tagbak in Iloilo City. In partnership with the local officials, the team set up tables filled with pantry staples in the barangay’s gymnasium where over 300 households benefited.

On June 3, in partnership with Tanghalan Mandaluyong Inc. (TMI Cares), M Lhuillier through OPEC Capital has chosen Barangay Hulo in Mandaluyong City as the recipient of their coin bank collection. Proceeds from the collection were used to purchase and distribute various goods to the grateful residents.

On June 5, the same team chose Barangay 160 of Tondo, Manila as the other beneficiary. Proceeds from the coin bank collection plus personal donations from the branch’s generous employees were used to put up a community pantry for its residents where the team distributed vegetables, kilos of rice, and fresh fishes much to the delight of the residents.

M Lhuillier cares deeply about the communities in which it operates. During these trying times, our OPEC groups have heeded the call of Bayanihan which Filipinos are known for. Health protocols and strict social distancing were imposed during these initiatives to ensure the safety of everyone while helping people in need.
